What is a holistic space?
It is an interior that is designed by looking beyond the surface to create awareness and an environment that supports and nurtures the people that live in the space.
Holistic designs create spaces that resonate from both inside and the outside from your spirit, your body, your home, the planet and the universe as a whole.
There are many disciplines to creating a holistic space but today I’d like to talk about Feng Shui. Feng Shui is an ancient Asian art of placement developed thousands of years ago.
This discipline enhances and improves the flow of energy through the environment to maximize the positive potential for your life.
Through perceiving and shifting the built environment, feng shui teaches us how to live in harmony and nature. Echo friendly design looks at your personal health and also how human actions impact nature and the earth.
Feng shui looks at the same issues: how does the environment affect us on an energetic level and in turn ,how do we influence the universe as a whole?
Feng shui divides the world into five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
If you have a room that doesn’t feel quite right, try balancing the elements to make it more comfortable.Conflict is an imbalance of energy snd the antithesis of a peaceful space. The more it presents itself in your life, such as through and any stress you might be carrying, or an illness, or challenges that keep appearing over and over again, the more closely the 5 elements should be visited with.
Each element invokes a different mood, creating a customized space that’s beneficial for your personality and goals. Understanding these elements is critical to peace in your space and of course, within yourself. The element’s effect on our lives are very deep rooted. Each one has a special association with certain personality traits, emotions, colors, shapes, seasons, and our human organs.
The wood element is associated with greens and blues. plants and flowers, all types of wood, columns and pillars.
The water element is associated with the color black, water features, glass, mirrors, and things that are asymmetrical.
The metal element is associated with white, all metals, and shapes such as dome, circle, and oval.
The earth is associated with yellows, earth tones, soil, ceramics, tile, brick, stucco, shapes such as square and rectangle.
Fire is associated with reds, lighting, candles, fireplaces, sunlight, and shapes such as triangle, and pyramid.
